AANI: History
In 1994 Dr. Basant Pant during his training in Hiroshima gave a presentation about the neurosurgical situation of Nepal. He requested the people present in the meeting to help deliver what he will learn during the training in Japan. The concept of Annapurna Neurological Institute was thus born with the aim of developing such an institute in Nepal which will train and teach at the same time. To realize this objective Annapurna Neurological Institute Support Committee (ANISC) was formed. ANISC was a non-registered organization, so it was eventually converted into a more formal organization called ‘Association for Annapurna Neurological Institute (AANI). Due to various reasons the initial idea of developing an institute could not be materialized but the spirit of developing neurosurgical care to Nepal was kept alive by AANI with its various actions.

For the last 10 years AANI have been actively involved in the technology transfer of neurosurgery to Nepal. In various occasions it has supplied different equipments, sent experts from Japan to train local neurosurgeons and supported Nepalese neurosurgeons to attend international conferences. With such exchange there have been tremendous amount of technology transfer to Nepal in the field of neurosciences. Now pituitary surgery, micro-vascular decompression, epilepsy, stereo tactic and functional surgery are some of the areas which could be initiated following such exchanges. AANI will also be actively participating in the 2nd Nepal-Japan Neurosurgery Conference to be held in Pokhara during Sept. 22nd -23rd 2006.
